Is it legal to post criminal backgrounds in a publicon-line social site?
There are chatters that are concerned with the people they talk to, and wants to know the backgrounds of others. Are these backgrounds allowed to be posted in public, example would be domestic violence?

The general rule is that criminal backgrounds, i.e. convictions, are part of the public record, therefore, as long as they are accurate and true there is nothing preventing anyone from posting them in any public forum, including but not limited to on-line social websites. Nevertheless, if you feel that this is being done in a malicious way you should contact a local civil attorney to discuss this matter in greater detail. That attorney may be able to advise you with respect to different steps that you may be able to take in the interest of remedying this situation. For example, in certain situations postings may amount to lible or slander, and give rise to damages that could be obtained through a civil lawsuit; or in other situations may give rise to an injunction.
