If I was recently hospitalized for dislocated ankle due to a car accident in which I was to blame, what costs am I responsible for?

I carried auto insurance and health insurance. I was recently billed by the hospital for $13,000 and I am waiting to see what the surgeon is going to bill me. Am I legally responsible for these debts?

Yes, you are legally responsible for all costs for your medical treatment which are not otherwise paid by your automobile and/or health insurance. To see what costs your insurance will pay, you need to review the terms of your policies: insurance policies are contracts, and like any other contracts, the rights and obligations of the parties (i.e. of you and your insurer) are defined by the explicit terms of the policies themselves.
