If I was approached by a city police detective stating that a person filed charges against me for vandalizing her car, what should I do?
This occurred in a supermarket parking lot and was videotaped. They were able to track me down by footage in the supermarket of me purchasing an item on credit card. As I left the store the women in question drove through a pedestrian stop sign and hit my hand. I was seen in the video tape walking around her car and leaving. The video tape does not show me actually keying her car but she claims that the gouges were not there before she parked the car. I have been asked to pay damages to the car in the amount of $2000. Should I pay or fight this?

If you truly believe that you did nothing legally wrong then you should fight the criminal charge against you. However, you should retain a criminal defense attorney to represent you in the matter whose cost most likely will exceed the $2,000 in claimed damages.
