Can I buy a handgun if I have a deferred adjudication from another state over 11 years ago?

I was charged with auto theft; I was young and dumb at 18 yreas old when this happened. The judge placed me on deferred adjudication for 4 years, I successfully completed my deferred adjudication and now 11 years later I would like to buy a handgun where I now live. Will my background pass?

A deferred adjudication typically means that at the end of the probationary period set by the Judge, your case would have been dismissed. If this is the case, then this offense should not appear on your criminal record as a criminal conviction and should not impeded you from purchasing a handgun. If it does appear as a criminal conviction, then it can impede you from obtaining the proper licensing to purchase or possess a handgun.
