Due to safety reasons, am I allowed to place a hotel lock or deadbolt lock on my door without my landlord consent?

In the last week my apartment doors have been opened and left opened twice, once in the middle of the night while I was asleep and the other while I was at work. I reported it to police and also to my landlord. My landlord told me to shut my doors tighter next time.

Under the laws of all states in this country, there is nothing illegal or improper about a renter place additional locks on his or her main door as well as bedroom door to the rental for security places. As such, you can install the additional security measures that you have written about.

I suggest a bottom door wedge as well at the base of the door for additional security. Such are easily placed and removed within seconds.
