Damages were done to our home. The guy had no auto insurance and is responable but the work was done unauthorized while we were not home. No contact was made regarding the estimate. Is this legal , and what is the best way to handle this?

Sorry, correction--the limit for small claims court is $10K for municipal court (Philadelphia) or $8K for District or Justice court outside of Philadelphia.

If the work was not done to your satisfaction, contact the responsible party and tell him so. Whatever repairs need to be made, or if the work needs to be redone, get a couple of estimates and provide him with them. If he doesn't respond, you can file suit either in small claims court (up to $15K) or state court if higher.
