If I was in a car accident in which the other driver was completely at fault according to the officer at the scene, what is my insurance company’s obligation to me?
My 30 year old car was totaled. The other driver’s car sustained a small dent. I’ve been with the same insurance company for 30 years, with no accidents until now. I was under the impression that the 2 insurance companies involved (mine and the other driver’s) would battle out the details of liability. I’m finding however, that my agent has been telling me what to do as far as making calls and what to tell the other company’s adjuster assigned to me. Is my agent obligated to do the footwork for me, especially considering how long I’ve been with them? Or is it up to each agent how involved they get?

While some adjusters or agents do more, and some do less (since in any line of work, some employees are better and some worse than others), the agent was not there for the accident: he or she has no personal knowlede of what happened, the damage done, how the accident occured, etc. If there are questions about this, only you, as the person who was there and saw what happened, can answer them.
