Can an asylum applicant just leave the country and go without being stopped at the airport?
Or is there legal process that they need to go through before leaving, even if the applicant does not intend to return back? This is regarding an asylum case that is pending with the hearing date a year from now;the applicant wants to give up and take the risk to return back to native land because of family issues.

It is entirely possible for the political asylum applicant that you have written about to just leave this country from an airport assuming a proper visa and passport are in tow. However, the leaving without getting legal advice from an immigration attorney could preclude the applicant's political asylum application from being granted.
