Is painting part of wear and tear when you move out of a unit?

The landlord is charging me for paint/smoke detective which was there when I moved he says I did $700 worth of damages when I know he’s lying, We did a walk-through together all he said was he have to do is replace the bedroom door and paint.

It is my understanding that under Illinois laws, a landlord may keep the security deposit - or a portion thereof - for unpaid rent, to repair damages and clean.The walk through was good.  Do you have anything signed by him regarding your claim?  Tht would be better.  You are going to have to take him to small claims court on this.  Good luck.
