a daughter of a friend of mine committed suiside, and she has a life insurance policy for 5 years already. the question is could the beneficiary claim the money?

Typically, there is a clause in a life insurance policy excluding claims based on death by suicide. However, some policies only exclude this type of claim for the first 2 years after the policy is issued.
You need to review the policy carefully. If there was only a 2 year exclusion, and the policy has been in effect for 5 years; then yes, a beneficiary could claim the insurance proceeds.
