Do I have to pay an personal injury lawyer if I lose my case?

I broke my wrist on a commercial apartment complex property because of there neglect. I even told them about the problem and still has not been fixed. I broke two of my bones in my wrist because of the fall. I had to have EMS out that night because the pain was horrible. I already had a metal plate and screws put in because it was a really bad break. Right now it is in a splint but my follow up appointment it will need to be in a cast. So far my medical bills are being paid because I am on Medicaid. There are times it feels like arthritis in my wrist. I hardly have any movement in that wrist.

A personal injury attorney takes the case on a contingency fee basis, which means the personal injury attorney is paid a percentage of the settlement or amount recovered.  You don't pay the personal injury attorney.  There is no fee if there is no recovery.  This should be set forth in the retainer agreement when you hire a personal injury attorney.
