How do I get my divorce finalized?
I filed for divorce 11 months ago after my wife had been gone for 3 years. Now I hired a lawyer and had his representation until 2 days ago. I informed him that my income had changed and that I couldn’t make the previous payments so they dropped me. Now I’m left with no lawyer and no divorce. How can I get my divorce and get some of the $5000 back that I paid out to this lawyer?

I am so sorry for your situation and that things went so wrong with your attorney. First, you need to send him or her a letter - everything should always be in writing - asking for your file (which is yours) and a detailed statement of how the retainer was spent in the case. An attorney is required to account to you for every detail on the file. As for getting your divorce, that is really hard to say with out knowing more about howthe money was spent and what stage the attorney is with regard to the filings. There is too much information that is not known about the stage of the litigation. Once you have the file go and see legal aid for help or an attorney that will do the matter pro bono (free; try a local bar association). Good luck.
