Can I be fired because of my sexual orientation?

I currently work at the Salvation Army and am in a postion that includes my preaching, praying and mentoring. For the last 8 years I was married to a man but things have changed and I am now in a relationship with a woman that happens to be my co-worker. I am scared that once they find out I will be fired. Is there any kind of law that states that I can not be fired simply because of my new found sexual orientation?

The Salvation Army is notoriously anti-gay.  But I don't think it qualifies as a church.  I'm happy to help you.  the majority of my practice is in CA but if Illinois prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation, you've got a case if they harass, demote or fire you.  I will discuss with you if you email me at [email protected].  Best, Brenda Feigen
