Can I be fired because of a phone call that I made to a co-worker after work hours?
I told him that I was so frustrated and angry with another employee that I wanted to throw a hammer at him, not that I would but that’s how I felt. it was a long day, very hot in the shop and every one treats me poorly because I don’t talk to them. I stand at my table all day and do my work. I don’t visit or goof off. Is this fair to be fired over an after hours phone call. It went through 4 people before it arrived with the boss; I was not one of his favorites. The shop lead was intimidated by me because I applied for a lead position that he applied for.

Do you have an employment contract or union agreement that covers a a such situation as this? Does your employer's action violate its own comapny policy? Is there some form of legally actionable discrimination involved? If not, then you are an at "will employee" and as such your employer can fire you for a good reason, a bad reason, or no reason at all (with or without notice). While seemingly unfair, it's the law.
