What repairs, etc. can a seller demand of a buyer?

I went to contract on my house over 2 months ago. Since then, I’ve been completing jobs that the inspectors wanted done. Now, the buyers want something else done in the attic. This is not something that is mandatory. Further, they want me to pay $4300 for it. If I don’t accept to pay it in full, can they back out since this was not in the original contract? Where would their deposit go to?

Please, please, please go and see an attorney as soon as you can.  The terms of the contract will govern what happens in these situations but the situation needs to be assessed.  Is it something that will be a deal breaker and the law would require that it be the seller's obligation?  Like asbestos found during inspection?  Or is it that they wish you to sheetrock the attic for use?  What they want makes a difference and how the contract reads will tell you about the deposit.  Good luck.
