If you were injured, or suffered several thousand dollars of property (e.g. auto) damage, you should contact a personal injury or product liability attorney to explore the possibility of bringing a lawsuit. If you only suffered several hundred dollars of property damage, you should contact the seat manufacturer, the dealer (if a new car), and/or the mechanic/shop which installed the motor (e.g. if done after the car was bought) about receiving compensation for any out-of-pocket losses; if they won't compensate you, you may wish to file a small claims case, acting as your own attorney (pro se). Remember: you can only recover damages commensurate with the injuries and/or costs you actually suffered. There is no recover for near misses or what could have happened, but didn't.
