Company History: Mutual of Omaha was founded in 1909 under the name “Mutual Benefit Health & Accident Association”. The company began to issue insurance and expand out of Nebraska in 1910. The company became the first insurance company to include a rehabilitation provision in its disability income protection policies in 1960, and in 1961 it changed its name to “Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company”. In 1970 the company merged with Supervised Shares Inc. of Des Mois. My spouse was diagnosed with MS. She worked for over thirty years. She filed a claim for Long Term Disability. Despite having the support from her doctors. CLAIM DENIED!! No feeling of security with this company. They are not there for you when you need it most!!! That’s really sad; all the years she had paid for it too!

My husband was approved for long term disability. He received it for 4 months and then we got a letter that they were stopping his disability payments due to one doctor’s report-a doctor that they required my husband to go to see. He has 10 doctors that say he should received it and this one who spent a total of 1/2 with him, that says he does not qualify. We hired an attorney to represent us and we are still waiting for a decision. It has been over 10 months. We have run through our savings and our praying for a positive resolution. It should be against the law what they are allowed to do.

Never purchase a Whole Life Insurance Policy with this company. Upon surrender of policy, they will most likely steal part of your surrender value. I was told I would receive X amount of money upon surrender. However, I was shorted the following months payment and fed a line of bull about why it was done. My recommendation is never do business with Mutual of Omaha under any circumstance.

Mutual of Omaha has the worst Short Term Disability policy. If you have to file a claim they will give you the run around, and after months of complying with their requests for additional information, they will deny your claim.

I purchased whole life insurance on both of my kids and after 3 years, I was sent a new “updated” package that showed the face value at HALF of what it was supposed to be. When I called I was told that I had been paying a premium on the lower package even though my application clearly showed I had chosed the higher value insurage. They then told me that I could pay the difference from the past 3 years then they would send out a new policy with the new premium set for my kids age as of now. Needless to say, I cancelled.

My hypertension elevated very high to the point that I had heart palpataions, so my primary physician put me on disability until they could get my pressure stablized – which was 4 weeks. Each of the physicians that I was seen by submitted their notes to Mutual of Omaha. Then I was told it had to go to the review board and I was denied. Who is the review board? And did not my physicians report mean anything?
I have paid into S-T-D for over eight years and I was not asking for a hand out, only what I thought was what I was paying for.
I will never sign up for it again and I will encourage all of my co-workers to do the same. The company is ripping peopleoff by taking their money and not delivering the help it promises when needed.

The only way I can file a claim is when I died, because is a life insurance, and then will not be me, it will be my beneficiary. But I can tell you something, twice I had to barrow against my policy and they were very nice about it, of course I paid it back asap. And now I am going to try them also as a health insurance medicare supplement.

I have a cash life insurance policy that has a disability rider, I attempted to use the disability rider and have had nothing but extremely rude customer service and lacking of support from the company. I faxed in all the forms twice and they claimed to have never received them. I then finally had one good employee give me an email address and so I emailed a PDF file. My doctor has not been able to get a fax thru as of yet, and he will not PDF the file. They are seemingly deliberately avoid any possible way to pay this claim. AVOID AVOID AVOID

In my opinion this company raises rates in any month of the year, not just on anniversary date of policy.I was never told where several hundred dollars shown on annual statement was applied, then told policy would lapse if no more was sent to run it to the next pay period. The customer service is horrible and information needed has not been forthcoming They will reply in 10 days to a few weeks. Terrible experience over 15 years and has gotten NO better in my opinion.

My grandmother purchased her life insurance with this company and upon her passing it took us over 3 months to get a check from them. When people are trying to deal with the loss of a family member they should not have to worry about funeral bills if they have a policy. If you are thinking about getting insurance with them, i would advise you not to choose them.

This company has given me the run around for 6 months on a short term disability claim. They keep asking for the same information over and over and then say they need another 45 days to make a decision.

I had a long term disability policy for 14 years thru my employer. I could no longer work because of a neuromuscular disease and
spinal stenosis. I walk with a 4 prong cane with great pain. I was accepted by Social Security Disability immediately, but Mutual of Omaha said there was nothing wrong with me. I should go back to work.

Mutual of Omaha Short Term Disability policy is the worst. They did not pay out my full claimm, based on their viewpoint not my surgeons. They also disclosed medical information to an undisclosed party which is a violation of the privacy act. Trying to locate a attorney.

100K Universal Life Policy, 1500 Annual Premium has a $500 Cash Value after 22 Years. This company is brutal. In the same time my Brother has made over 30K with Northwestern Mutual. Mutual of Omaha is a very poorly run company!!

Cant keep billing strait. They activated a policy incorrectly stated they fixed it and now three years later I am attempting to get them to fix it again. They should be billed for my time and aggravation. As far as renewing the policy. I am stuck they have the cash value hostage. If I had a choice I would self insure and take my chances on the open market. It is less risk.

I was on LTD and they cut me off by deciding my doctors were worng and there medical experts looked over the case and said I could work. ALso, becasue I went to counsler for stress over the illness they used that as saying it is a mental condition not a health condition. They hired someone to pretend they were a client and I kept telling this person I could nto help them and now they say I was working. All Lies…..

I had life insurance thru my work, becamse disabled, advised Mutual Of Omaha that I needed the waiver to kick in and make the payments. I mailed in proof of the disability, including Social Security, they did not acknowledge the waiver, told me to keep making the payments so I would not lose the insurance, then NEVER put the waiver into effect. No reason why either. I called my lawyer Friday…
Plus, once you are disabled, just try to get life insurance, the got you coming and going….

Signing up for a policy is easy. Its only when you claim, or attempt to claim for benefits that you see how poorly this Company manages their customers. 30 min and longer waits on the phone are usual, and their response for any requested information has to be in writing, by mail, and takes 2 – 3 weeks min to get a response. They do everything their power to slow up your access to the paid policy. Would never use them again for any policy – purely based on the customer treatment they provide.

Mutual of Omaha requests one piece of informaion at a time and once they receive the information, they then ask for something else to prolong the process. Customer service reperesentatives tell blatent lies jut to try to appease you and most of them are very disrespectful.

I have a traumatic brain injury from being hit in the head. I have not worked, drove or return to my normal life since the injury. I am in rehab at this time. I have all my records and the abnormal
eeg but they denied my claim for long term disability. They state I can return to work and am just depressed. I am sad over what happen to me and the changes it has made but I am trying to keep positive. I am depressed because I have worked my whole life and never was late on one bill. I am now living on no income and paying high amount to cobra to keep my health insurance. I sold everything but my home which my family is helping me to keep at this time. I thank God for my family and a few medical people that have helped me through this but Mutual of Omaha has done nothing to help me just made me feel really bad and scared.

I have long term disability with them and when I got cancer 2 years ago my greatest challenge was not the cancer treatments or facing death – It was fighting with MoO and to this day it is a constant fight with them outright lying delaying and searching any and every word on the contract to not pay. They make me wish I had died because living like this is just not worth it. I was even able to get SSDI easier than the loop holes they make me jump though. and end result – they call the shots because they can right or wrong Also the girls up front who make the decisions and keep you from getting benefits you paid for have a mean IQ of less than 80 – I feel sorry for them if they are smart enough to realize what they have to do to others who are sick for their pay check A prostitute has more dignity in what she does for a living Do not buy MoO insurance for anything – not that there are many out there any better.

Be careful if you are contacted by this company about upgrading your coverage. I have been left much worse off after falling for a proposal to transfer cash value in existing straight life policiesto what I understood to be a larger straight life policy in a larger face amount.In the end I received a universal life policy into which my cash value disappeared to pay about half of a whopping first year premium. I have exercised my right to void the policy but am still waiting for the premium refund. On reviewing the policy I also noted that the agent had not accurately entered information I had provided in the application.This was a bad experience and I have been harmed by it.

The company raised the rate on their Medicare Supplemental plan in May 2011. Obviously other than cancelling and going without insurance you had no choice but to pay the additional premium. You cannot switch carriers except during open enrollment. The increase was over 20 a month not a lot but dont you think the actuaries would have known prior to the enrollment period they would need a rate increase in 2012 I cannot believe that in April the management team decided the increase was necessary. Had to have been planned much earlier than that. So why wait Because they know you have little choice but to pay it. This move cost them two policies from my household and about ten others from people I know who were as unhappy with this change.

DO NOT work with Mutual of Omaha. I had to file for short term and long term disability. They have continually lied to me and will not pay me though all three of my doctors have stated to them that I cannot work due to my disability.

I am destitute thanks to these folks. I have short term disability with them sent in every form they wanted Dr did too. It’s been over a month and no answer yet. I don’t have a cent left and they are more than aware of this. I hope you’re smarter and go with ANY COMPANY but this one

I had two spinal fusions a total of six levels fused. after a year of recovery I went back to work my drs thought that the surgery I had was work ending. That’s when the nightmare began. Mutual of Omaha used every thing to deny my claim. I hired an attorney and that’s where Im at currently They lie about what you can physically do the opposite of what the doctors say NEVER deal with this fraudulent fly by night company I hope in January of 2013 Obama care ruins this company they are thiefs.

Customer Service is run by incompetents. Almost impossible to contact. No copy of policy sent only voucher for next payment. Tried to register online for account access and it won’t accept. Called CSthey don’t know how to make it work. They don’t even appear to know what to do about it. Agent knew less than a random kid off the street would know. WOW.

I would never ever do business with this company in any capacity again. They lied right to my face The good news is if you contact an insurance lawyer they will take your case. Had 4 separate attorneys tell me how bad mutual of omaha’s reputation has become. All you have to do is research how many complaints and lawsuits they have It’s outrageous

They offer low rates to get you take the policy and increase the rates 25 to 30 percent each year in 4 years our rates doubled.

I am 72 and make annual payments. Since I changed address 4 years ago to a town in Australia I have received no invoices except one forwarded from Austria. Every year I inform them of my address change and they assure me they have my correct address on file. Then I receive no invoice but make my payment which does not change. Obviously they are looking for an excuse to cancel the policy.In the past they called me trying to sell me policy changes that would work to their advantage.

I work for a major health company who recommend me to join their group policy with this insurer big mistake Been waiting a month and a half for them to pay my legitimate claim and they’re stone-walling me. They requested records from the VA over 75 documents. I called today to find out that they’re are now requesting additional documents from 2 years back. I called me human resources dept to let them know that this company is shady and plan to not pay me. It would not be so bad except for the fact that my doctors won’t release me to go back to work for another 2 months Do not be fooled by the name of this company even the employees complain about being ripped off by them Do not buy anything from MoO you will regret it in the end

I had 4 revocable beneficiaries listed on my term life policy and following a divorce I needed to remove my former spouse as one of those beneficiaries. This should be a fairly simple request but it turned into a never-ending series of headaches. I submitted precisely what was asked for each time the forms were sent in but they repeatedly denied my request and ask for additional information. The most frustrating thing about this is that MO doesn’t assign anyone to a case like this and thus each time you call their customer service reps you have to start from the beginning with a new rep. So maddening I finally insisted that they connect me with someone in the department that handles beneficiary changes. I then received an Email from a Policy Service Analyst. The first Email I received from her did not address me by name nor did it have her name or contact info at the bottom. It was like a text message and in my opinion very unprofessional. The only way I knew her name is that it was on the URL. She eventually approved my beneficiary change but the first draft of this had several errors on it. I asked several times to communicate with a supervisor in her department but she ignored my request. I eventually received an Email with an attachment that appears to be correct…several months after my first request for the beneficiary change.I will NEVER purchase anything from MO again. There does not seem to be any accountability whatsoever when it comes to customer service. My suggestion to MO is this If you receive multiple calls about the same problem then assign the case to a specific rep who can then become familiar with the case and be held accountable for solving the problem.

My Medicare went from $95 for a Plan F to $256.75 by the time I turned 71. That is a 22% avg increase each year. My friend compared his plan and his only averaged 5% increases. Shame on the company and agents.

I bought into a group whole life insurance policy for XXX in 1998. The company I worked for folded but I was able to retain the portability policy. In 2014 the company stopped mailing me my quarterly invoices so I contacted their corporate headquarters. To no avail, no new invoices were ever mailed to me and Mutual of Omaha canceled my policy. No letter was ever mailed to me stating that my policy was canceled but of course they deny it so now I have lost over $6K dollars with this company. I have called various departments and no one was able to locate me in the system. However, when I stated that I filed a complaint with my State Insurance Commissioner suddenly they were able to find my policy in the system and state that it was canceled in 2014. I WILL NEVER DO business with MUTUAL of OMAHA.

I have two policies, one 25,000 and one 10,000. I was late on payment with one of them, by a month and they told me until I paid it had went down to 90. I paid, but now I have questions about that and I’ve been on hold for 1 hour and no one comes to phone. There request is to call before 9am or after 3pm central time. I am calling after 3pm central time and no one has come to the phone. This company policies does not sound right, I am going to cancel and change companies.

I have short term disability insurance through my employer with Mutual of Omaha. In June I was no longer able to work due to chronic back and neck pain that had flared to uncontrollable levels, along with depression and anxiety from the pain. I was given forms to fill out for STDB. I had my doctor fill out all paperwork, with multiple diagnosises, and all current medications treating the pain and depression and anxiety. He stated I am unable to work at all during this time while being treated. One week later the pain worsened, and my arm has been numb, tingling, and has radiating pain shooting down it non stop for over 1 month and keeping me up nightly. I started seeing a new chiropractor 3 times a week. My first call from Mutual of Omaha came 2 weeks after sending in my doctor’s forms 2 weeks to tell me they were received- not approved yet I was told she needed more records from my dr to approve my claim, despite 5 diagnosises which would render me unable to work She asked if I was seeing any other doctors, and I mentioned the 2 chiropractors. Well now she wants their records too. One week ago July 26 she tells me she got my dr records but still needs the chiropractors records. I checked with both doctors, and both sent my records the prior week. I called the case manager on Monday and left a message. It’s now Thursday and she finally called back after I tried every day with no success reaching her. She again tells me she’s waiting for records from my chiropractors I told her they were sent a week and a half ago and my dr said someone contacted them this Monday from the insurance company asking where my records were, and they told them they faxed the prior Friday. Well she acts dumb and claimed it was not her who called my chiropractor Then after arguing with her about what the hell is taking so long to approve, she says she needs their records, then puts me on hold, and mysteriously finds my records from one chiropractor but still claims she needs the other’s. I told her again they were sent, I feel I’m getting the run around and am going to be denied, because if they can’t approve my claim based on my original doctor’s records alone, then I’m sure one chiropractor is not going to make the difference. She became rude and said I can send your records for review now if you want, but it’ll probably be denied, so if I were you I’d check with the first chiropractor. So we hang up and I call them, and of course they said they faxed my records to the insurance a week ago, but will do it again In the meantime, I am in Financial distress, had to take a cash advance on a credit card to pay bills, and have received zero money from this disgraceful company I even told the case reviewer I can’t even pay for my copays, x-rays or MRI until I get paid. Of course she doesn’t care Stay far, far away from Mutual of Omaha if you want to get paid when you’re unable to work and need it What a fraud They are by far the worst Rude reps, don’t return your calls, and find every reason to delay or deny your claim. Your money would be better spent saving for an illness to pay rather than paying premiums to this crooked company

Had to go out of work with a back injury for 6 weeks. They paid me for 3 and denied the last two even though a doctor kept me home and provided all of my medical records for them. I pay into this at work every week never even thinking that when I need to use it I would have such a problem. I am disgusted.

I received a letter from Mutual of Omaha on Nov. 1, 2017 stating that my life insurance was no longer in force–I am 72 and the letter told me that my insurance was terminated Dec. 1, 2015–for two years I had been paying premiums–and did NOT have the protection of life insurance for this entire period Yes, they finally reimbursed me for this period, but with no apology or explanation, but continued to collect my premiums I complained to several Customer Service employees, but to no avail, and I have yet to receive a reply from my written letter to the main office. Stay away from this company

I have had Mutual of Omaha Disability Insurance for 18 years and this is the first claim I’ve ever filed with them. My doctors and I complied 100% and I was denied my benefits. This company is a TOTAL RIP OFF. I wish they could see me I’ll give them the finger.

So far, so good, but they did help write the book for medicare. if they don’t pay, we don’t pay. Very difficult to contact someone. DO NOT GET THE DRUG PLAN. Was bounced around among 6 contacts. CANNOT REACH ANYONE AT MUTUAL OF OMAHA AT ALL. Every website and phone number goes directly to the drug company they are the watch dog, provider, plan administrator, etc. depending upon who you get at what 800 number. It is also VERY EXPENSIVE IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A LOT OF DRUG NEEDS. If you do, it’s ridiculous payout system, but they claim that those rules are set by Medicare and they go by that. Tried to talk to a Mutual of Omaha agent, he was a very friendly jolly fellow who ultimately ignored and dismissed my questions while trying to sell me more insurance. Viewing all the other providers, I don’t see that any of them are above a 2 star public rating. However, the health insurance is better than my last which was 235 month regionally through Obamacare and the local HOSPITAL wouldn’t even take it Would had to have gone 75 miles for a hospital. And few area doctors took it Irony the only insurance offered for the county
