Can Progressive Insurance deny a claim for hale damage for not having receipt for a claim 5 years ago? I filed a claim for hale damage for a bad storm that happened last month and Progressive denied claim because I didn't have receipt for a claim 5 years ago. I have been paying full coverage with Progressive for 12 years. They denied claim because I don't have receipt for previous repairs. My mother took and has passed away since and I don't have receipts.

Most insurane companies who settle a hail damage claim are aware that the damage is not always repaired by the vehicle owner. In your case, if you were the owner of the car at the time of the previous claim, they can ask for proof the repairs were made. However, if you did not own the car at that time, and then purchased insurance from them, they should honor your claim.When you applied for the insurance you are usually requested to advise of any existing damage to your car. If you indicated there was no damage, and the agent or insurance company did not inspect the car, they have no standing to deny your claim.If your mother had the car insurance, and you simply took over her policy, then no application would say whether you indicated damage or not to the car. It puts you in a more difficult position. You indicate the car was damaged 5 years ago, but insured with Progressive for 12 years, so the times are confusing.Ask to speak to a supervisor about the claim. See if they will help you in getting the claim settled to your satisfaction.
