Technically basic needs: food, clothing, housing, etc.  But what a child's basic needs can differ these days than it did in years past.  It could mean afterschool activiites.  It could mean gas and transportation. Child support is based upon income of both parents and the factors surrounding custody and visitation.  If you think that something is amiss then speak with a lawyer in your area.  Good luck.
