Would a recent move from a medical marijuana state be considered as a factor in a pre-employment drug screen?

A friend of mine just moved from a medical marijuana state. He was staying with his mom, who has a prescription and smokes in the house. He is worried about passing a drug test. Is there anything he should do or say before the test, and is there anything he can do if he does not pass the test clean?

I suggest that your friend take a pre-test for drugs in his system paid by the friend. By getting an advance read on any possible outcome he will be in a better position to discuss why he may have tested for marijuana in a subsequent test.

If he does test positive for marijuana for a drug test for a job application, he should simply tell the truth as to him not smoking but that he resided in his mother's home where she smoked marijuana.
