Will my having been arrested at 17 show up on a background check for a government position?

I paid a $300 fine in court the next day. The position does a background check and asks if I have been arrested. Should I say no because it would have been dropped off my record? I was arressted for underage possession of alcohol. I want to say that it was more of a fine like a speeding ticket.

In order to answer the questions you are presented with concerning the job application you are writing about, you need to carefully read it in order to answer them.

With that in mind, you need to realize that your juvenile court records are sealed and that the questions that are being asked most likely pertain whether you were arrested as an adult. Most importantly many people are arrested but are not convicted of the crime that they were arrested for.

Most likely your arrest as a juvenile will not appear in your background check for employment because your juvenile records are sealed.
