Who is responsible for an accident in whichI suffered a permanent injury?

I jumped off a pontoon boat and my finger got caught in the door hinge which had a pinch ball in it but it moved when the gate was open. My finger was pulled off and it was unable to be put back on. The insurance company said the owners are not at fault therefore they will not pay for it.

Please, please, please go and speak with a personal injury attorney in your area as soon as you possibly can.  The facts as you have laid them out here do cast doubt on the liability issues that surround the accident and more information is needed in order to determine any liability.  It could be a problem with the design of the pontoon boat (which would be a product liability issue) and your actions could mitigate the liability as well.  The insurance company is going to take a had line position here given the facts that you have written.  It appears from the outside looking in that you caused the injury yourself.  Get help asap.  Good luck.
