Assuming you have written lease for the premises that you are occupying, then the document itself may state the amount of time in writing you need to give the landlord if you do not intend to renew the lease.

Assuming the written lease agreement does not have a time frame as to notice to be given to the landlord of your intent not to renew the lease, most states require at lease 30 days notice in writing to the landlord as to the last day of your tenancy.
