You can be a temporary worker forever. There is no legal requirement that an employee *ever* be made permanent. Moreover, since--unless you have a written employment contract which limits the reasons you can be terminated--"permanent" employees are "employees at will" who may be fired at any time, for any reason whatsoever (including the employer simply felt like firing you), being made permanent does not offer any real employment protection.
