What rights do we have in regards to the home we live in

My husband and I have been living in our house for
the past 15 years. It was put under my mother in
laws name due to our bad credit. She has never paid
any bills in the house and moved in with us a couple
of years ago. She is very elderly and we are stil.

If it's in your mother-in-law's name, it is not your house--it is hers. If the title is in her name, she is owner, and you have no rights to the home: she could, for example, evict or remove you from the house. Whether or not she pays the bills is irrelevant; all that matters is that she is (or so you indicate) the person in whose name the home is titled, which makes her legally the owner.
