If a visitor, as opposed to a tenant leaves property behind at a property you own, you should first make an attempt to contact the visitor about the belongings that were left behind and the need to come and get it.
If you are unable to make contact, the best thing to do is turn the property left behind to the police department and explain that it was "abandoned" on your property.
If the property is not claimed, the police department depending upon the laws of your State either auctions off the property, sells it, or notifies you if you want it since you turned it in.
If you are notified and you do not want it, the police department would typically auction it off or sell it as abandoned property.
