How do I find out what benefits my ex’s employer will be giving him when he retires soon? How important is the financial statement we both must fill out, does the judge use it to make a decision on alimony or is just income used?

1) The information is very important, since income is only one facet of what a person has or have in terms of resources, and hence is only element in determining what they can or should pay as support. You want to know everything about income, pension, deferred income, bonuses, stock options, and other benefits.
2) The only way to get information such as this will be by using the mechanisms of "discovery"--e.g. document production requests and subpoenas--which are available in a lawsuit. Hence you will need to litigate against your soon-to-be-ex-spouse, and not just settle to get access to any information which the spouse does not willingly or voluntarily provide you.
