If you received a citation for petit theft, went to court and heard your case was dropped, do you have a criminal record?
I did a background check on myself and that is when I learned of the petit theft and that the case was disposed. I would like to know what all this means.

Since your case was dismissed (dropped), you don't have a criminal record because you were not convicted.
The case could have been dismissed for various reasons such as insufficient evidence. The prosecutor has to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt in order to obtain a conviction.
