Are you sure the police didn't talk to any one? If you are charged with a crime, the burden of proof is on the prosecutor to prove beyond reasonable doubt that you did it.  As part of your defense, your public defender or your private defense counsel will choose to talk to these "witnesses" and determine if they should be called to the stand.
