I am suing for $400,000 but they only have $100,000.

If you don't have uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage (assuming this was a car accident) exceeding $100,000.00 then your only recourse is to try to collect more from the Defendants, including if you sued the employer of the driver if the driver was in course and scope of employment at the time of the accident.
