what do employers look for when there’s a back ground check?
I want to go back to college,but I know there’ll be a back ground check.( I’m 45 w/ a criminal record of **** abuse and being incarcerated) . I just hope my stupid mistakes I made when I was younger. Does not keep me from accomplishing my goals in college.Thank You,Deborah

Is it college you desire, or employment? It's unlikely that colleges do the sort of background check you're nervous about. Even it they do, your record will not hurt you with many colleges, although there may be a few that will hold it against you. With employers it's more likely that they will do a background check and a certain percentage of these simply will not hire you. On the other hand, some employers may feel morally obliged to hire an ex-convict. Still, your job search may be considerably more difficult--you're going to make even more of an effort than, in these difficult economic times, you might have had to a few years ago. Keep trying for college, and by the time you graduate, things may be better. Good luck!
