No, he would not automatically own half the property and home. And no, you would not assume each others assets and debt. What you come in to the marriage with is considered separate property unless you choose to have it become marital property. Same holds true for debt. Now, if you put his name on the property or otherwise show an intention to have the property become marital property then he can try and claim that it is subject to equitable distribution if your should get divorced. I think that you should seek some counseling before you get married and have some one take a look a your financial situation and give you advice. Good luck.
