Unpaid 3 day vacation

My wife’s company got bought out June 19th and the old company paid out all their accrued vacation and sick time. My wife had a 3 day vacation June 24-26th and they said they would not pay her since she had no time accrued. Do they have to pay her even though she would have a “negative” balance of vacation accrual? Thanks

I don't understand.  Was she supposed to be paid for this time? If not, then the new company doesn't have to honor it.
