Should my probation officer have told me I needed to file paperwork to get charge expunged?
After finishing probation with a possesion charge that they said would be eligible for expongement i was pulled over for speeding and the officer said he saw i had a possesion charge and asked if he needed to search the vehicle the next day i called my former probation officer to ask why the possesion charge was still on my record and she said there was probably a form that didn’t get filed. Were the courts throughout the whole process responsible for telling me how to actually get it expunged?

No they were not. Getting an arrest record expunged is your responsibility. In fact, they didn't have to tell your that you were even eligible for expungement.
At some point you simply have to accept responsilbity for your own actions.
