If i was fired and seeking to sue for
wrongful termination, should I cash the
final check they gave me for money they
owed mesuch as unused vacation time?

Cash it UNLESS at the same time as they gave it to you, they gave you some letter or agreement in which they stated (and you acknowledged) that in exchange for the check, you are giving up all rights to sue them or any claims against them. As long as there is nothing waiving your right to pursue your claims, you may take the money.
