Several months after paying out a robbery claim, my insurance is requesting receipts for replaced items. Is this common? We don’t have the receipts.

Robbery: 11/12/08Payment: 2/8/2009Letter: 3/10/2009Initial letter requesting receipts for replaced items. I replied directly to the investigator on 3/13/09 asking for more particulars. Most of the stolen items were older, out of production video games/systems that could not easily be replaced. What had been purchased after the theft had been out of pocket long before receiving any money from Selective Insurance. It was then 4 months later and we no longer had the receipts. There was no reply until today (6/27/09) when I received another request for these receipts. What can I do?

They already paid you for your loss and now they're asking for receipts?  That makes sense if they found the robber and are trying to recoup their losses (which I doubt) or they are making a claim with their reinsurer (which is possible).  If you've already been paid, I wouldn't worry about it.  I suggest you write a letter and let them know exactly what you told me.  If you have no receipts, you have nothing to give them.  Can't get blood from a stone!
