There are many things considered in criminal sentencing, and it varies somewhat, from one state to another. Most of the facts of the case, as well as the prior record, will matter; without those facts, and not being an Ohio attorney, I really can't guess.
My research suggests that the jail time for a fifth degree felony can be anywhere from six to twelve months, and there can be a fine of up to $2,500. It would not be unusual, if he is found guilty of both charges, to be given the same jail time for both, to be served "concurrently" -- meaning, at the same time. The underage drinking from a year ago will probably disqualify your friend from a chance for deferred sentencing or other first-offender relief.
