ow does a N-470 work?

I am a permanent resident in the US. I work overseas for the US government as a contractor. I would like to preserve the continuity of my residence in the US for naturalization purposes. I come to the US before every 6 months of my overseas stay. As I read about N-470, it says if you stay outside the US for 1 or more than 1 year, you may file this application. However, I will stay outside the US for 7-9 months. What to do to preserve continuity of residence in this situation?

You can still file this application if you are going to be outside the US for an extended period of time in connection with work for a US employer.  You should also file a reentry permit so that you do tno have to come back to the US every 6 months and that will also preserve your permanent resident status.
