What to do if I purchased a used car from a private seller and as soon as we drove the car way it had to get a complete brake job?

And less than 2 weeks later, the radiator has a big hole in it and the transmission is going. At the time of purchase, the owner said the car was not sold “as is” but did not have a warranty. Also, we found out a few days later that the car report that he showed was a year old.

Buying a car from a private seller is always a problem.  Even though they may not specifically have said the words "as is" that could be just what you bought in to.  Did you have the car inspected?  Then you could maybe go after the inspector.  You may be able to make something out of the year old report but how quickly you act could make a difference here.  Try fraud in the inducement to contract.  Good luck.
