What to do if my wife was in an auto accident, missed a week of work, had 2 trips to the emergency room and 15 physical therapy appointments?

The medical bills totaled $7000. Is there a formula to use to see what she should settle for?

The general rule of thumb in personal injury cases is 2-3X actual medical + lost wages, so in your case $14,000 to $21,000 (I am assuming she had accrued sick time which she used for her week off, such that she did not have lost wages).  If you can negotiate to receive $14,000 without an attorney, you should probably take it.  if not, you may want to retain the services of a personal injury attorney, who will take the case on a contingency basis and will not get paid until s/he collects for you.
