Is it legal for my auto insurer to include my teenage son onto my policy without my authorization?

My son will turn 16 soon and no driver’s permit yet. My insurer added him automatically in to my auto policy without my consent or authorization. I contested it and now, it wants me to sign a “Restriction Endorsement” (exclusion of my son) from my policy.

Your insurer is playing hard ball. Virtually every insurer will require that all licensed family members in a household be included on your policy, whether they drive your cars or not. You should let the insurer know when the child gets his or her learner's permit, but typically the teen isn't listed (or your policy charged) until he or she is licensed. Tell them your child does not have even a permit and when he is licensed you will either add him or sign the endorsement. ANd if they give you a hard time report them to your State Department of Insurance .
