I am so sorry for your loss.  Here is what you need to do.  Speak with the proposed executor or executrix about your intentions and then ask them to be present for a "walk through" to document that you did no damage and what you are taking,  Have them sign an acknowledgement that you took your belongings only and what was taken - even write the list as you go along if need be - and that you left the place broom clean and no damage.  Good luck.
