Alimony is an award or agreement pursuant to an action of divorce.  It is now called spousal maintenance in many states. If she is still married and has not filed for divorce or has a marital settlement agreement then that is not an avenue that she can pursue. I think that your sister needs to seek legal help about what she can do within the confines of the law in Ghana and how far reaching those laws are.  Good luck.
