If my mechanic broke a part removing it supposedly to access another part, am I responsible for the broken parts?

He initially quoted me $185 for the labor but now is charging me for the parts that they broke.

You are NOT responsible for the part broken by your mechanic.

Your mechanic is liable for negligence which is the failure to exercise due care (that degree of care that a reasonable mechanic would have exercised under the same or similar circumstances to prevent foreseeable harm).

You are NOT responsible for your mechanic's negligence and you should NOT pay for a broken part which was caused by your mechanic's negligence.
