What to do if my landlord told us yesterday, without any prior notice or warning, that she sold the house and needs me to vacate in 30 days?
We are on a month-to-month basis, so no lease. Do I still have to pay rent for these 30 days she gave me to find a new place to live?

1) If you are a month-to-month tenant, then in your state, your landlord may give you 30 days notice terminating your tenancy (just as you could have given the landlord 30-days notice you were moving out).
2) The landlord does not need to provide prior notice that she is selling or may sell the house; the law does not require this.
3) If you stay there, you'd have to pay for the 30 days unless the landlord agrees to let you not pay; whether you are moving out at the end or not, if you are still in possession of the home, you need to pay rent.
