What to do if someone used a credit to open an account?

My husband and I checked our credit report and someone had opened a satellite TV account. It says we owe $248. We have never even had such an account. What should we do? Should we file a police report?

How smart of you to check your report. This is a form of identity theft and fraud.  There are mechanisms for reporting it that the FTC has established to help you bounce back. I am going to give you a link here. You also have to report it to the credit reporting companies nd many have "how tos"on their web sites. Check them. Good luck.
