If my engagement was broken off by mutual agreement, who gets the ring that we both helped topay for?

My fiance and I decided to call off our engagement 9 months ago, by mutual agreement. He had given me an engagement ring, and since I made more money than him I paid for 1/3 of the costs, while he paid the other 2/3. At the time of our split, he left the ring with me. We remained cordial until recently, when we had a huge fight, and are no longer on speaking terms. During our fight, he repeatedly asked for the ring back. If he does take me to court, what is likely to happen? Does he get the ring even though I paid for 1/3 of it?

Rings are gifts and stay with the party in possession regardless.
