If my employer wants to deduct my pay pay for any gasoline drive-offs tht I may have, is this legal?

No, an employer may not deduct or withhold employee pay, without employee consent or agreement, except as required by law (for example, wage garnishment ordered by a court; FICA). What your employer can do is--

1) It can require you to pay at the pump anytime you fill up a company vehicle or your own vehicle for work--it is legal to make employees bear this expense.

2) It can terminate--or suspend, demote, etc.--you if it feels you are doing something wrong and costing it money.

3) If it believes you have acted in a negligent (careless) way so as to cost it money, or have deliberately done something wrong to cost it money, it could potentially sue you to recover those funds.

But it may not simply take the money from your paycheck.
