If my dog ran out of our front door when we opened it for friends, got into a fight with another dog and now it’s owner is claiming damages, what is our liability?
Another dog was on a leash and after sniffing each other, they got into a fight. The woman walking the dog got her hand bit and claims it was our dog. There were several witnesses and no one saw which dog it was and how it occurred. They are claiming that we are responsible for their medical bills. How can we protect ourselves?

The only way to "protect" yourselves in this situation is to offer to pay for her medical bills so she does not sue you for pain and suffering and all manner of other things. Their dog was on a leash and yours was loose. That makes you responsible. It is more likely that your dog bit her than that her dog did. Man up and volunteer to pay the medical so you do not get hit with much more plus attorneys' fees.
