Can grandparents be given custody of their grandchildren?
My daughter and ex-son-in-law are now in a battle for custody of their 8 year old girl and 11 year old boy. My daughter does not have the means to pay for legal support and my son-in-law is being bank rolled by his mommy. I am not confident that either of them has the means or the maturity to care for these children. My wife and I are considering the possibility of applying for custody. Seems like a fairly risky proposition. I wonder what are odds might be if we elect to pursue this?

Given the right circumstances where the parents of minor children have issued where the parents are deemed unfit parents by the court a responsible relative such as a minor child's grandparent could end up with legal custody of a minor child.
